June Books:

Persuasion- Jane Austen
On The Road- Jack Kerouac
Lies My Teacher Told Me- James W Loewen
Grief of My Heart, Memoirs of A Chechen Surgeon- Khassan Baiev

The first three were re-reads. The last one just grabbed me. It was hard to get into, but soon the scene he painted, the things he lived through, the choices he made forced me to put it down a couple of times. As much as I wanted to continue I had to take a break because it made me sick to think about it. I just finished the last page today and have spent the past few hours on the internet looking for information about this place and I am bombarded with a million different stories.

Naturally this just makes me rage against the media, and culture in general as soon as I see something about Lindsey Lohan as the top news of the hour. I mean normally I understand, but sometimes I just get into this funk. Maybe I should stop reading these books. I really don't know.

Anyway, books I bought for July:

They Pointed Fire On Us From The Sky, The true story of three lost boys from Sudan:
Benson Deng, Alephonsion Deng, Benjamin Ajak.

The Wake Of War, Encounters with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan: Anne Nivat

Northanger Abbey: Jane Austen

Emma: Jane Austen

Angels in America: Tony Kushner.

I'm a huge quote whore. Really, truly, and when my computer was wiped I lost my huge doc that had all of my favorites. Anyway tonight I found my Dorothy Parker Book (Yay!) And I fell in love with her all over again. Here are some things she said:

"The first thing I do in the morning is brush my teeth and sharpen my tongue."
— Dorothy Parker

"If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to."
— Dorothy Parker

"His voice was as intimate as the rustle of sheets."
— Dorothy Parker

"I wish I could drink like a lady.
I can take one or two at the most.
Three and I'm under the table.
Four and I'm under the host."
— Dorothy Parker

"I'd like to have money. And I'd like to be a good writer. These two can come together, and I hope they will, but if that's too adorable, I'd rather have money."
— Dorothy Parker

Salary is no object:
I want only enough to keep body and soul apart
- Dorothy Parker

His ignorance was an Empire State Building of ignorance. You had to admire it for its size.
- Dorothy Parker

“Razors pain you
Rivers are damp
Acids stain you
And drugs cause cramp.

Guns aren't lawful
Nooses give
Gas smells awful
You might as well live.”

-Dorothy Parker

“By the time you swear you are his, shivering and sighing, And he vows his passion is infinite and undying- Lady, make a note of this: One of you is lying”
Dorothy Parker

Pandoras Box

I am writing a short story and in order to continue I need to think about this elusive legend.

What came out of it?

All the myths say all the terrible things in the world. But what in this world is truly terrible?

Fear? Intolerance? Hate? Greed? War?

For me everything stems from fear. Fear of not having, fear of not knowing. Fear of being left alone, of being killed.

But I am scared I am too in my own perspective. So tell me what is inside of your Pandora's box. What do you think the terrible things in this world are?

Tree Series

Not quite the finished products but close enough I feel okay posting them. My theme was trees, not necessarily realistic, more like using trees to create atmospheres and moods. Hopefully I have succeded.

My Ain't True Love: Chapter 1

I am procrastinating, and challenging myself. Every installation will be 100 words. Cute short, probably angsty cause that is all I can write. Here we go.

His lips are soft against hers. They are always soft. So soft, so warm, so yielding, so easy to direct, to push, to train, to want; not so easy to love.

“Do you have to go?” He asks her for the thousandth time.

How she wants to roll her eyes, and push him away for good, but it would hurt his precious feelings. With a careful and well-practiced smile, she pushes her lips against his once more. A goodbye kiss, a promise of her return, a kiss like all the others, the same kiss she has known for an eternity.

Day 16:

Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly)

The only song that has ever made me cry its all about missed opportunities and real life, and god just listen to the lyrics

Why do I fail at this so much?

Day 09 → A photo you took
Day 10 → A photo of you taken over ten years ago
